The International Order of Job's Daughters (Sometimes abbreviated to IOJD), known throughout the world simply as Job's Daughters, is a Masonic related youth organization for girls aged 10 to 20 who are related to a Master Mason. The purpose of the Order is to band together young girls who are related to a Master Mason to build character through moral and spiritual development including a greater reverence for God and the Holy Scriptures, loyalty to one's country and that country's flag, and respect for parents and guardians. It is the oldest one of five Masonic related organizations for girls, dating from 1920. Click here for an explanation of who Masons are. The individual group in each city is called a Bethel and they are numbered according to when they were instituted. They usually meet at a Masonic Lodge building and when they are in session they refer to the meeting place as the Bethel. Members of the organization are sometimes referred to as Jobies. The organization was founded as The Order of Job's Daughters (IOJD) by Ethel T. Wead Mick in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1920, and quickly spread to countries throughout the world. From the onset Job's Daughters were active in their community through charities and other social activities. Mrs. Mick was particularly fond of the Book of Job, and took the name of the organization as a reference to the three daughters of Job. She founded the Order with the assistance of her husband, Dr. William H. Mick, and several Freemasons and members of Eastern Star of Oklahoma. She dedicated the organization to the memory of her mother, Elizabeth D. Wead. The ritualistic work of the order is based on the triangle, the three daughters of Job, the open book and education. The Job's Daughters' Mission Statement The International Order of Job's Daughters is a premier organization for young women that provides a wholesome environment based on the foundation of high morals, love of country, love of family and friends and respect for others throughout the world. It is a living organization dedicated to meeting the needs of young women today and their challenges of tomorrow. It is a quality organization that fosters a sense of pride in achievement for each and all members as they prepare to become the adult leaders of the future. Majority Degree Daughters who have reached age 20 or become married may participate in a special Majority Degree Ceremony. The officers have memory work for the Majority Degree Ceremony. After a girl reaches majority, she is eligible to participate on the Council. The Degree of Royal Purple The Degree of Royal Purple is designed to honor Majority members who have been especially generous in dedicating their time and efforts to promoting their Bethels and the International Order of Job's Daughters. As Job's Daughters, we are expected to be "the Fairest in the Land," but it is often easy to fall short of the mark. The Daughter who always displays faith, responsibility, respect and love should be rewarded, and it is with this aim that the Degree of Royal Purple is conferred. Hearing-Impaired Kids Endowment
